How does someone start a new blog? How do you write that first compelling post that grabs someone’s attention and keeps them coming back for more? Well, I don’t know the answers to those questions, but I’m going to give it a go and see where I end up. If you’re reading this first introductory post, I hope you decide to stick around and come back for more. I also hope that the blog content and presentation improve over time as I learn the fine art of the process itself.
First, why the blog? Well, I am currently on a very personal journey towards Gastric Bypass surgery (also known as Roux-en-Y (RNY)). I decided to blog my journey for myself and also for others who may benefit from things I learn along the way. I want to be able to look back and see where I started.
Let’s begin with a little background. I am currently a young (!!!) 50 year old and have been overweight much of my adult life. After birthing children, deaths of loved ones, job changes, and relocations I decided that it doesn’t really matter HOW I got to where I am today. This is not going to be a blog about how I got to be medically “morbidly obese”. It also really doesn’t matter WHY I have chosen the weight loss surgery route. I have my reasons, and most of those are medically-motivated and doctor-approved. The fact is, no one should have to explain a personal decision to improve one’s health. My close family is on board with the decision and it doesn’t matter if others approve or not. Naturally, some of my reasons will come out during my blogging journey, but justification is not the main intention of this process.
I want to provide a road map for others to follow who may be thinking about weight loss surgery (WLS). I also want to have a place for myself to look for encouragement when this road gets tough. I know WLS is not the easy way out that many believe it to be. I also know this next year is going to be extremely hard, mentally and physically.
In addition, and to be completely honest, sometimes I just have things to say and discuss. This is my safe space to be transparent in the good and in the ugly. Some days, I may derail and go completely off topic, and that’s okay too. So buckle up, because we may be in for a wild ride of twists and turns over the next year.
I love that you are here!!
Excited for you and your journey! Prayers always for you my friend. ❤️
